Don’t let my website throw you off.
As I read your blogs and saw the pictures I began to cry. Not for myself but for all those single families I work with.
The group I work with is S.M.U.R.F in California. It is a group trying to help single moms with the issues of life. I try to help them specifically with their budgeting financial issues.
But the great question and need is, “Where are the fathers of these little ones?” I would love to see one man or a group of men reaching out to those young men who have never heard about what a father is, about the responsibilities and rewards of fatherhood. Someone to give them a little hope and ideas of how to stand in the hard times to protect and guide their families.
I know this is a large and probably impossible request. I guess the next question is how do you form a group that could help in any way. Looking for ideas as well.
Love your blogs,
Dorene

Dorene,
What a great and heartfelt response. My delay in getting back is ironic. Away at a Christian writers conference for my Generational Fathering. Wouldn’t you know, one of the questions an agent asked, “What about single moms wishing the dad–or ANY dad–were around for their children?” This question and yours cements the note-to-self to include an answer to this question in the book.
For now, I can only leave you with beginning notions and appeal to your for folloup ideas. Going directly to elders in your church (if don’t have one, find one), perhaps Boy Scouts, boys clubs (and girls clubs) in the area. The idea of forming a group may turn out to be a major thrust of the book. These are not thoughts from the deep that you may have wished for, but with my wheels turning, keyboard pecking, and time slowly moving on, we may find a solution.
